Realcare, a Manitoba-based, family-owned company, has remained true to its core value of providing ‘homecare from the heart’ since 1996. From its inception, Realcare filled the ever-growing need to offer healthcare support and services to people in their homes, whether due to limitations brought on by aging, recovery from an illness or injury, a desire for palliative care amid familiar surroundings or return home from a hospital stay.
In the ensuing 29 years, Manitoba’s and Manitobans’ healthcare needs have changed, and Realcare has been there to respond to these changing needs. The growth in the aging population, not only here but worldwide, has exerted extreme pressure on the healthcare system, including a resulting decline in the availability of nursing home spaces.
Of course, as we all know, the COVID-19 epidemic has exacerbated these issues, reducing the number and calibre of available healthcare staff to address this growing need.
Today, in addition to providing home-based health care, Realcare has been providing services to local healthcare facilities, including in-hospital and nursing homes.
We see everything we do as vital to stabilizing the health and well-being of our clients, whether on an individual basis or within an institutional setting.
Another primary service we offer clients is assistance registering for self- and family-managed care provided to Manitobans through provincial healthcare. For example, we will help clients ensure that they receive the prescribed number of hours of provincially paid care for which they may be eligible. We work collaboratively with families to identify their loved one's needs and provide options for government support.
We work with Nurse Practitioners to help our clients receive excellent care for minor ailments without making unnecessary hospital visits. The use of Nurse practitioners is new to our healthcare system in Manitoba. They can order tests and prescribe medication to patients as needed as part of a robust care team.
We offer transportation services, making social outings possible in addition to scheduled doctor visits and medical testing. This offering contributes to our clients’ improved quality of life.
We work with pharmacies to provide home delivery of medications for our clients' convenience and peace of mind.
In response to high demand from our existing clients, we have recently extended our services to include home/apartment/condo cleaning. When you call Realcare, you can expect thoughtful and skilled cleaning services.
Other essential services we provide, in addition to our highly trained staff, are consistent with the same staff providing services and staff matched in temperament and values to the clients they serve. If the fit isn’t right, we return to the drawing board. We want to ensure that our clients are completely satisfied.
We acknowledge that there are growing challenges and changes in our industry. We face considerable competition from companies that have moved in from other jurisdictions and new local start-ups. We are up for these challenges because we believe and hold to the core values that have kept us alive and thriving over the past 29 years and counting more.
