To the Editor,
The last part of your article [Clarifying The Role of the Crown] left an impression that an inquest was not called
into Lilyan Peck’s death because perhaps the family objected to an autopsy.
However, her daughter, Marsha Palansky, has stated to me that the Medical
Examiner’s Office never even asked the family about doing an autopsy. Nor did
they do much of an investigation – despite the fact that Victoria Hospital
reported the case to the Manitoba Government as a suspected case of abuse.
Clearly, the Medical Examiner’s Office failed to live up to their
responsibilities in this tragic death. Yet the Medical Examiner has not been
publicly called to account on this!
