To the Editor,
Today, Israel was admitted as the thirty-second member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). "
Israel’s acceptance into the prestigious European-based economic organization is an extremely significant development, It signals the international community’s recognition of Israel as an important and responsible centre of economic, technological, and social development.”
Israel has experienced unprecedented economic growth in recent years, establishing itself as an international leader in science, medicine, and technology.
Today’s decision by the OECD will provide the world with greater access to the cutting-edge Israeli marketplace.
The OECD’s decision followed three years of comprehensive evaluation of Israeli civil society and government institutions by 18 different committees of the Organization.
“It’s important to note that Israel’s membership required the unanimous vote of the thirty-one OECD members, despite last-minute efforts by the Palestinian Authority to thwart Israel’s acceptance.
We are especially appreciative of the support lent by the Government of Canada throughout the entire process to Israel’s successful application. It is reflective of the close ties the two countries enjoy, based on the shared values of democracy and open markets.”
