Holocaust Remembrance Day Event on Capitol Hill:

A CHRISTIAN RESPONSE TO THE HOLOCAUST

WASHINGTON, D.C. –   Holocaust Remembrance Day (Monday, April 28, 2014) will be commemorated on Capitol Hill with a special event focusing on a prominent American Christian diplomat and scholar who tried to rescue Jewish refugees from the Nazis. The commemoration will be hosted by U.S. Congresswoman Donna Christensen (D-VI).

The event, which will begin at 6:30 pm, will feature an educational viewing of Shuli Eshel's new documentary, "A Voice Among the Silent: The Legacy of James G. McDonald." It chronicles the humanitarian efforts of James McDonald, unearthed from his recently discovered diaries, to find safe havens for Jewish refugees and warn world leaders, including President Franklin Roosevelt and the future Pope Pius XII, of Hitler's threat to "get rid of the Jews." McDonald also later served as the first U.S. ambassador to Israel.

The April 28 event will also feature a panel discussion with Congresswoman Christensen; Josh Zarka, Minister for Congressional Affairs of the Embassy of Israel; Dr. Barbara McDonald Stewart (McDonald's daughter); historian Dr. Rafael Medoff; and filmmaker Shuli Eshel.
