I just read your article about funding students to attend conferences, fellowships and training programs.
There are tons of student opportunities out there beyond CJPAC. CFJS took students this year (1 from Winnipeg) to AIPAC, and are taking a delegation to AJC. There was also a CFJS Western Canada conference in Calgarylast month – Winnipeg again sent a large delegation. Students take the free trips, but there is no follow up or expectation, thus making all of this a waste of money. No student in Winnipeg has a 100% dedicated passion, and are all out looking for travel opportunity. Since there is no one there monitroing that they give back and use the knowledge gained from this highly subsidized opportunity – nor the laid out expectation of tangible results, people feel they are privileged and deserve such opportunity.
